The weather department says many parts of India are likely to get rain over the coming week.

Central, eastern and western regions are expected to receive the most widespread showers.

Northwest India will generally get lighter or more scattered rain.

Some places may also have thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Vidarbha could see wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour.

Several northeastern states are expected to remain wet as well.

India’s monsoon rainfall so far is below its normal level.

The monsoon is important because it supplies much of India’s yearly rain for water and farming.
