Vontimitta temple deities to be adorned with gold-plated kavachams · thehansindia.com

At a temple called Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple in Vontimitta, the statues of the gods are getting new shiny outfits.

The statues are of Sri Kodandarama Swamy, Sri Sita Devi and Sri Lakshmana Swamy.

They used to wear brass armour, but it did not match their beautiful golden crowns and jewellery.

So the temple managers decided to make new armour covered with a thin layer of real gold.

The project will cost about Rs 1.61 crore.

They will use one kilogram of pure gold and 40 kilograms of copper.

The copper makes the armour strong and the gold makes it shine.

The work will be given to workers through a fair online bidding process.

The temple is very old and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Many visitors will get to see the beautiful new outfits during temple festivals.
