TTD to install donated windmill, boosting green power generation
Tirumala is a famous temple town that uses a lot of electricity every year.
Most of that electricity is bought from a power company, and some comes from windmills that make clean energy.
A company from Mumbai has decided to give the temple a brand-new windmill as a gift.
The new windmill will make more electricity using the wind, so the temple will not have to buy as much power.
This will help the temple save about one and a half crore rupees every year.
The windmill is expected to start working within three months.
The kind company will also build and take care of the windmill for free for 25 years.
The new windmill can make more electricity on a small piece of land than a solar farm can.
This project helps the temple save money and use cleaner energy that is better for the Earth.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) approved installation of an 800-KW wind turbine at Tirumala, donated by Mumbai-based Vish Wind Infrastrukture LLP at an estimated project cost of ₹6 crore.
The turbine is expected to generate about 16 lakh units of electricity annually, saving nearly ₹1.45 crore per year based on the prevailing tariff of ₹9.08 per unit.
TTD consumes around 600 lakh units of electricity each year; roughly 100 lakh units come from existing windmills and the remaining 500 lakh units are purchased from APSPDCL.
The turbine will be installed near the GNC Nursery close to the 33/11 KV substation on about 1.39 acres of allotted land and is expected to be commissioned within three months.
The donor will supply, install, commission, operate, and maintain the turbine free of cost for 25 years, with electricity provided free for captive use, saving about ₹36.32 crore over its lifetime.
TTD already operates nine wind turbine generators, including six 1.25 MW Suzlon units, two Enercon units, and an earlier 800 KW turbine installed by Vish Wind Infrastrukture LLP in 2023.
