Celebrate girls' success, focus on boys' higher education: Governor Patel

A convocation is a big ceremony where students who finish their studies receive their degrees.

On Tuesday, such a ceremony was held at Maharaja Suheldev University in Azamgarh, a city in Uttar Pradesh, India.

More than 63,000 students received their degrees that day.

Many more of them were girls than boys — about 42,700 girls and about 20,300 boys.

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, came to the ceremony and said she was very happy that so many girls are studying.

But she also said we should try to help more boys go to college too.

She learned that many boys leave home to find jobs, so they don't continue their studies.

The governor asked the university to teach skills that help students get jobs.

She also told students to stay healthy, avoid drugs, and be careful while using phones and the internet.

She encouraged them to help stop bad things like child marriage and unfair treatment of people, and to keep learning by reading newspapers.
