Centre Clears Telangana’s Proposed Rs 5,000-Crore German Loan
Telangana wants to improve water and other city services in smaller cities.
A committee in the Union finance ministry has given an early approval for the state to seek a 5,000-crore-rupee loan from Germany’s development bank, KfW.
The whole programme is expected to cost 7,143 crore rupees, with Telangana contributing 2,143 crore.
A major part would improve sewer pipes and wastewater treatment in Greater Warangal.
Other plans include better drinking water, drainage, lake restoration and waste services.
The programme also aims to help cities cope with climate-related challenges.
More detailed plans for each project must be submitted before a loan agreement is signed.
NITI Aayog suggested linking support to better municipal governance, and Telangana accepted the suggestions.

The proposed Telangana-CRUTI programme has a total outlay of Rs 7,143 crore, including Rs 2,143 crore from the state government.
Its centerpiece is a Greater Warangal sewerage and wastewater project estimated at approximately Rs 5,257 crore.
Plans include expanding water supply, drainage, lake restoration, waste management, sustainable transport and blue-green infrastructure in selected smaller cities.
The Union urban affairs ministry backed the proposal subject to project-specific detailed reports; NITI Aayog advised municipal governance reforms, which Telangana accepted.
