Manipur Cabinet Approves Women Empowerment Scheme for 3.5 Lakh
The Manipur government approved a new programme to help women in self-help groups.
About 3.5 lakh women may benefit from it.
Each woman will first receive a grant of Rs 10,000.
In the next two years, they may receive loans without interest.
The Cabinet also approved several bills for discussion in the state Assembly.
One bill would change the state goods and services tax rules.
Another would update town planning rules, while a stamp-duty bill would seek more state revenue.
The Cabinet also agreed in principle to a police recruitment plan for talented sportspersons.
The Manipur Cabinet approved the Women Empowerment (WE)–Manipur scheme for 3.5 lakh recognised self-help group members.
Each beneficiary will receive a Rs 10,000 grant in the first year, followed by interest-free loans in the second and third years.
The Cabinet approved introducing the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (10th Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the upcoming Assembly session.
It also approved amendments concerning town planning and stamp duties, aimed at enabling construction and raising state revenue.
An in-principle police recruitment scheme for meritorious sportspersons was approved under the existing 5% reservation for Group C and D posts.
