Sikkim CM spotlights women's empowerment schemes at Aama Samman Diwas
The leader of a place called Sikkim held a big celebration to honor mothers.
It was called Aama Samman Diwas.
At the event, he talked about ways the government helps mothers and women.
One way is giving money every year to women who do not work outside the home.
That money helps them become more independent.
He said that starting in 2027, even more women will get this help.
The government also helps mothers pay for cooking gas.
It gives money to help couples who need special medical help to have babies.
Working mothers in government jobs can take a whole year off when they have a baby.
Special places to feed babies were built all across the state.
Sikkim Chief Minister P. S. Tamang (Golay) attended the second Aama Samman Diwas at Goli Ground in Rangpo, spotlighting women-centric schemes.
Under the Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, non-working women who are unmarried, widowed, divorced or separated and aged 18-59 get ₹40,000 annually in two installments.
From 2027, the scheme will expand to 50,000 beneficiaries, covering more than 1,500 mothers per Assembly constituency; around 32,000 beneficiaries received assistance on Monday.
Other initiatives highlighted include ₹4,500 annual LPG assistance for over 4,200 rural mothers, up to ₹3 lakh for IVF treatment, and one-year maternity leave for women in government service.
Breastfeeding pods have been set up across all six districts, and Aama poetry competitions in schools and colleges will begin from July 1 next year.
