Nellore Mayor Says Constitutional Rights Made Her Mayor

A mayor named Devarakonda Sujatha went to a special celebration for tribal people in Nellore, India.

The celebration was called World Indigenous Day.

The mayor said she became mayor because of the rights written in India's Constitution.

She said those rights were created by a man named Dr BR Ambedkar.

She promised to help tribal citizens with paperwork and identification problems.

She told parents to send their children to government schools.

She said education is the best way to escape poverty.

Another leader, Sannapureddy Suresh Reddy, talked about welfare programs from the central and state governments.

He asked officials to make sure tribal families actually receive all the benefits they are supposed to get.
