Nearly 1.9 lakh Delhi students await uniform subsidy payments

The Delhi government promises to pay for school uniforms for children who study in government schools.

The money is supposed to be sent directly to parents' bank accounts before school starts.

But this year, about 190,000 students haven't received their uniform money.

So parents had to buy uniforms using their own money.

One mother spent 10,000 rupees on uniforms for her two children.

Another parent spent between 2,500 and 3,000 rupees and got the money back almost a year later.

The government says payments are late because some parents gave wrong or incomplete bank details.

The uniform money is different for different classes: 1,250, 1,500 or 1,700 rupees.

A court has told the government to make sure the money reaches families on time.

Parents hope they won't have to wait as long next year.
