Madhya Pradesh Restores Direct Uniform Payments To Students
Madhya Pradesh had planned to give government-school children ready-made uniforms.
That plan has now been dropped.
Instead, the government plans to send uniform money directly to students’ bank accounts.
This payment system is called Direct Benefit Transfer, or DBT.
The change came after problems with uniform tenders and a court stay.
Earlier uniform programs faced complaints about wrong sizes, poor fabric, and late delivery.
About 54 lakh students received uniform assistance through DBT in 2024-25.
The department is now preparing to use the same kind of system again.
Madhya Pradesh will transfer uniform assistance directly to government school students’ bank accounts through DBT.
The decision follows a department review meeting and directions from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
The state’s stitched-uniform tender was cancelled after the Madhya Pradesh High Court imposed an interim stay.
The previous stitched-uniform plan had replaced a Rs 600 clothing allowance for Classes 1 to 8.
UDISE+ 2025-26 data lists 56,62,228 students in Classes 1 to 8 at government schools.
