BEST Bus Driver Tested for Alcohol After Fatal Mulund Accident
A lady was crossing the road in a big city called Mumbai.
A large bus was waiting at a red traffic light nearby.
When the light turned green, the bus started to move.
The lady was very close to the bus, and the bus bumped into her.
She fell onto the road, and the bus wheel rolled over her.
Sadly, she was hurt very badly and died.
The police took the bus driver and the conductor to the police station.
They checked whether the driver had been drinking alcohol, because someone asked them to.
The police are still looking into exactly what happened, and they have kept the driver and the bus for now.
A 56-year-old woman, Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar, was run over and killed by a BEST bus at Mulund Check Naka in Mumbai around 2:30 pm on August 7.
The Route 512/35 bus, travelling from Nerul towards Mulund, was halted at a traffic signal when the woman came into contact with its front right corner and fell, and was run over by the bus's right-side tyre as it moved.
Driver Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise, 33, and the conductor were taken to Mulund police station, where an alcohol test was conducted at Agrawal Hospital after an objection was raised against the driver.
An accidental death case was registered on August 8 against the driver under BNS Sections 281 and 106(1) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police retained the driver and the bus until 9 am, with the bus stationed at Mulund police station pending further investigation.
