BEST bus kills BMC sanitation worker near Mulund; driver detained
On a special birthday day for Mumbai's buses, something very sad happened.
BEST, the company that runs many buses in Mumbai, was celebrating its 79th foundation day.
On that same day, a lady who helps keep the city clean lost her life.
Her name was Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar, and she was 56 years old.
She was crossing a busy road near a place called Mulund Check Naka.
A big bus had stopped at the traffic light.
When the light turned green, the bus started moving and hit the lady.
She fell onto the road and was run over, suffering very serious injuries.
She was taken to a hospital, but the doctors could not save her.
The police are now investigating what happened, and the bus driver has been detained.
Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar — also reported as Jayashree Bhanji — a 56-year-old BMC sanitation worker, died after being run over by a BEST bus near Mulund Check Naka on Friday.
The accident occurred around 2:30 pm, on the day of BEST's 79th foundation day celebrations.
The bus (registration MH-01-EM-1891), plying the Nerul–Mulund Check Naka route (route 512 per one report), started moving when the traffic signal turned green and hit the woman as she crossed the road.
The driver, Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise (33), a resident of Dombivli, has been detained for questioning, and a case has been registered; the probe is supervised by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Ghatekar.
The bus conductor alerted the police control room, and the woman was rushed to Agarwal Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before treatment.
