Benzene Tanker Leak Triggers Emergency Response In Mumbai’s Chembur
A tanker carrying a large amount of benzene began leaking in Chembur.
Benzene can catch fire easily, so emergency teams quickly went to the area.
They moved the chemical into another empty tanker.
The two tankers were then taken toward the BPCL refinery.
Officials kept people 500 metres away as a safety measure.

In a separate incident in Mulund West, another tanker tilted but did not leak.
A tanker carrying around 28 tonnes of benzene leaked near Mysore Colony on Mahul Road in Chembur East.
The incident was reported at about 8:12 pm on Monday, August 31, 2026, near a Monorail station.
Officials transferred the benzene into an empty tanker, completing the decanting operation around 10:20 pm.
A 500-metre safety cordon was maintained, the road was washed with jet water, and traffic was later restored.
A separate tanker carrying glacial acetic acid tilted in Mulund West, but officials detected no leakage.
