Ghatkopar Landslide Death Toll Rises to 8 After 32-Hour Rescue

In Mumbai, a big part of a hill suddenly slid down and buried some homes — this is called a landslide.

A man named Saddam was trapped under a giant rock for 32 hours, which is more than a whole day and night.

Firefighters and rescue workers wanted to save him very badly.

They could not bring in big machines because the streets were too narrow and the land was too steep.

So they hit the huge rocks with hammers and other hand tools to break them apart, little by little.

After about 32 hours, they finally pulled Saddam out of the rubble.

They rushed him to a hospital, but the doctors said he had died.

In all, eight people lost their lives in this tragedy.

Seven other people were hurt and are now recovering in hospitals.

Rescuers kept looking to make sure no one else was still trapped.
