840 Companies Close in Nashik; MP Questions Worker Protection Measures
Many companies in a city called Nashik in India have closed down.
Over the last five years, 840 companies closed or were removed from official records there.
Across the whole state of Maharashtra, more than 36,000 companies closed.
A leader named Rajabhau Waje, who represents Nashik in Parliament, asked the government about this.
He wanted to know if workers got the money they were owed, like their savings funds, gratuity and wages.
The government said it does not keep records on how many workers were affected.
Waje also asked how many new companies opened during the same time.
The government's answer did not clearly compare new companies with the ones that closed.
