Telangana Advisor: Fine Rice Supply Prevents Black Market Diversion

In the Indian state of Telangana, the government gives poor families food at special shops called ration shops.

A government advisor named P. Sudarshan Reddy said the state now gives better quality rice, called fine rice, to these families.

He said good rice is important so poor families can eat healthy food.

In the past, he says, the rice given was not good enough to eat.

Many families sold that rice instead of eating it.

He also says some rice meant for poor people was sold secretly in the black market.

Now the government wants to stop that from happening.

They are giving people new digital smart ration cards.

These cards help make sure the rice goes to the right people.

Officials were told to make sure every grain of rice meant for poor families reaches them.
