Delhi Traffic Advisory: Red Fort Road Closures for Independence Day
India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15, and a big celebration happens at the Red Fort in Delhi.
The Delhi Traffic Police wants the roads to be safe for everyone during the event.
So on August 15, from early morning at 4 am until 10 am, some roads near the Red Fort will be closed.
Only cars with a special label are allowed on those roads.
People who do not have the label should use other roads.
The police suggested different routes for people going north, south, east, or west.
Big trucks and interstate buses will also be stopped or redirected during this time.
City buses will take different routes as well.
The police ask everyone to leave home early and follow the road signs.
If someone sees a suspicious object, they should tell a police officer right away.
Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory with road closures and diversions around the Red Fort from 4 am to 10 am on August 15, 2026, for Independence Day celebrations.
Closed roads include Netaji Subhash Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, S.P. Mukherjee Marg, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and Ring Road; most articles list Lothian Road, while one lists Lok Nayak Road.
Only vehicles with valid parking labels will be allowed on the restricted routes; commuters without labels should avoid C-Hexagon at India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, JL Nehru Marg and Ring Road towards ISBT Kashmere Gate.
Alternate routes were suggested for north-south, east-west and trans-Yamuna movement; goods vehicles are banned between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight August 14 to 11 am August 15.
Interstate buses are barred between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, while city buses and DTC services will be diverted; the police advised planning journeys, leaving early and reporting suspicious objects.
