Independence Day: Major traffic diversions planned around Chennai secretariat
Chennai is getting ready for Independence Day, which is a big national holiday in India.
To celebrate, there is a special flag-raising event at a place called Fort St George.
Because many people will come, the police are closing some roads near the fort so everyone stays safe.
Cars and other vehicles cannot drive on Kamarajar Salai and Rajaji Salai on August 15.
Only people who have a special pass can bring their vehicles close to the fort.
Guests have different colored passes, like red, purple, blue, and pink.
Each color tells drivers which route they can take and where they can park.
The police have made a plan to send other cars on different roads instead.
Drivers are asked to follow the signs and listen to police officers.
This helps the celebration happen smoothly and safely.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police announced traffic restrictions and diversions for Independence Day celebrations at Fort St George on August 15.
General vehicle movement will be prohibited on Kamarajar Salai between the Labour Statue and the War Memorial.
Restrictions will also apply on Rajaji Salai from the War Memorial to the northern side of the Reserve Bank subway.
Only vehicles displaying valid passes will be permitted on restricted stretches, with separate access arrangements for invited guests.
Vehicles with red and purple passes can travel along Rajaji Salai until 8.30 a.m. and park inside the Fort complex, while blue and pink pass holders use prescribed routes.
