India Could Overtake United States in Metro Rail Length
India is building many more metro rail lines across its cities.
Its network now measures 1,170 kilometres in 26 cities.
The United States has about 1,386 kilometres of metro rail.
This means India is 216 kilometres behind the United States.
Minister Manohar Lal said India may pass the United States within two years.
China remains far ahead, with about 8,000 kilometres of metro lines.
In Indore, a new extension makes the metro route 17 kilometres long.
Trains will run regularly each day to help people travel around the city.
India’s metro rail network has reached 1,170 km across 26 cities, according to Minister Manohar Lal.

The extended Indore service now covers 17 km and 16 stations, up from a six-km commercial stretch.
Services will run every 15 minutes from 9 am to 7 pm, with more than 80 daily trips.
