This means India is 216 kilometres behind the United States.

Minister Manohar Lal said India may pass the United States within two years.

China remains far ahead, with about 8,000 kilometres of metro lines.

In Indore, a new extension makes the metro route 17 kilometres long.

Trains will run regularly each day to help people travel around the city.
