Delhi's Barapullah Phase III Set For September 29 Opening
Delhi has built a road corridor called Barapullah Phase III.
It is expected to open on September 29.
The project has been delayed nine times over about nine years.
It will connect Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan.
It will also connect with the older Barapullah corridor toward AIIMS and South Delhi.
The full connected route will be about nine kilometres long.
The project became more expensive than originally planned.
Officials say the delays involved land, trees, construction near the Yamuna and the Covid pandemic, while alleged irregularities are being investigated.
Barapullah Phase III is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 29 after missing nine deadlines over nine years.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to inaugurate the corridor alongside Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The 3.5-kilometre corridor will connect Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan and link to the existing Barapullah corridor.
The project’s cost has increased from about Rs 1,260 crore to approximately Rs 1,635 crore.
Delays were attributed to land acquisition, tree clearances, work near the Yamuna and the Covid pandemic; alleged irregularities are under investigation.
