Delhi Master Plan 2047 Approves 40 Lakh Homes, Smoother Commute
The people who plan how Delhi grows have made a big new plan called the Delhi Master Plan 2047.
It is a map for what the city will look like for the next 20 years.
They want to build 4 million new homes so more people can live there.
The plan tries to make homes cheaper so families can buy smaller, smarter apartments.
Old buildings that are more than 50 years old will be allowed to be rebuilt taller.
New homes and offices will be built near train and metro stations so people can travel easily.
It will also make it easier for builders to get permission to build new housing.
Areas on the edge of the city will get new roads and homes too.
The plan still needs the final approval of the central government before it becomes official.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), led by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, approved the Delhi Master Plan 2047 (MPD-2047).
The plan aims to support a population of nearly 32 million by 2047 by adding 40 lakh (4 million) new homes.
It incentivises affordable compact homes with a carpet area of 25 to 60 square metres to help the middle class and young professionals.
Land rules were eased so individual landowners can approach the DDA directly, projected to unlock 20 to 30 lakh new housing units in Outer Delhi.
The blueprint, which supports India's Viksit Bharat @ 2047 vision, has been forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for final notification.
