Maharashtra FDA Suspends Kyani Cafe License Amid Statewide Crackdown
Maharashtra’s food safety department inspected many restaurants, shops and food businesses.
It said some places were dirty or storing food unsafely.
Kyani & Co, a 122-year-old cafe, had cats, rats’ droppings, flies and cockroaches, according to inspectors.
Officials also reported blood inside a refrigerator and an open sewage manhole in a food area.
Because of these problems, the cafe’s food license was suspended.
The department suspended 30 licenses or registrations across the state.
It also seized more than 50,000 kilograms of food that it suspected was unsafe, adulterated or badly labelled.
Some people were arrested and criminal cases were filed.
The FDA said it would continue checking businesses and taking action against serious violations.

The 122-year-old Kyani cafe was among 30 establishments whose food licenses or registration certificates were suspended across Maharashtra.
More than 50,000 kilograms of food products valued at ₹1.19 crore were seized during the statewide drive.
The FDA reported 22 FIRs, 30 arrests, three sealed establishments and the seizure of three vehicles worth ₹14.80 lakh.
Officials also acted against Mumbai eateries and other establishments over alleged adulteration, unlicensed operations, poor hygiene and labelling violations.
