Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences After Food Safety Hygiene Violations
Maharashtra’s food safety officials inspected businesses that make or sell snacks and other foods.
They said 10 establishments had broken food safety or hygiene rules.
Officials also inspected 11 businesses in Thane on September 9.
They seized a large amount of food, ingredients and oil because they suspected poor quality, adulteration or unsafe production.
The seized items included wafers, chivda, farsan, flour and cooking oil.
Inspectors found problems such as insects, poor cleaning, unsafe storage and food being prepared in open areas.
The businesses were told to stop operating while further action is considered.
The FDA also asked organisers of community food events to provide advance notice so inspections can be planned.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration suspended licences or registrations of 10 establishments for alleged food safety and hygiene violations.
The action covered six establishments in Mumbai, one in Konkan, two in Pune division and one in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division.
During a September 9 inspection of 11 Thane establishments, officials seized 28,955 kilograms and 56 litres of suspected adulterated or substandard food materials.
The seized products, valued at Rs 20,48,801.50, included wafers, chivda, farsan, flour, palmolein oil and used cooking oil.
Inspectors reported problems including pest-control failures, poor ventilation, improper waste disposal, cross-contamination risks and inadequate storage.
