Maharashtra FDA Suspends Kyani Cafe Licence After Hygiene Violations
Food inspectors in Maharashtra checked restaurants and food businesses before the festive season.
They found serious cleanliness problems at the 122-year-old Kyani & Co cafe in Mumbai.
The problems included cats, insects, rat droppings, blood in a refrigerator and an open sewage opening.
Because of these findings, the cafe’s food licence was suspended.
Inspectors also took action against other restaurants and food sellers.
In total, licences or registrations for 30 establishments were suspended during the campaign.
Officials seized more than 50,000 kilograms of food that could have been unsafe, adulterated or incorrectly labelled.
The campaign also involved arrests, police cases and sealed businesses.
The inspections were intended to enforce food-safety rules across Maharashtra.
