India Completes 2,843-Kilometre Dedicated Freight Corridor Network Project
India has finished building a special railway network just for carrying goods.
It is called the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
The reported completed length is 2,843 kilometres, although officials also described it as more than 2,800 kilometres.
The last three sections in Gujarat and Maharashtra cover 326 kilometres.
They cost more than ₹20,700 crore to build.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the project moved very slowly before 2014.
He said the new tracks can help freight trains travel much faster.
Trucks can also move goods through connected routes in about 10 to 12 hours instead of around 30 hours.
The government says the corridor will make transportation more efficient and help lower logistics costs.
