ASR International Airport at Bhogapuram to start operations August 17
A brand-new airport called ASR International Airport is opening in Bhogapuram, India.
It will start welcoming flights and passengers on August 17.
The airport was built by the GMR Group together with the government.
It has a very long runway and can serve about six million travelers every year.
That number can grow to more than 40 million people in the future.
The old airport in Visakhapatnam will no longer serve flights, since all services are moving to the new one.
Nearly two dozen flights a day will fly to big cities like Hyderabad, Delhi and Bengaluru.
People will also be able to fly to Singapore with Scoot and to Abu Dhabi with IndiGo.
The new airport is expected to bring more tourists and businesses to the area.
ASR International Airport at Bhogapuram will commence flight operations from August 17, starting Sunday midnight.
The airport is developed and operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under a public-private partnership model.
It has an initial capacity of 6 million passengers per annum, scalable to more than 40 million passengers.
About 22 domestic flights will operate daily, with Hyderabad receiving the most services at nine flights a day.
Scoot will link Bhogapuram to Singapore three days a week, while IndiGo will operate direct services to Abu Dhabi four days a week.
