Delhi SIR Draws Over Five Lakh Claims Before Draft Roll
Delhi is checking its voter list through a process called a Special Intensive Revision.
Many people asked to be added to the list or to fix information about them.
More than 5.3 lakh requests and objections had been received by September 1.
The draft list also left out about 47.6 lakh people because their checking forms were not collected.
Some people were marked as having moved, being absent, deceased, or registered in more than one place.
Officials also found problems in the records of about 33 lakh people whose forms were received.
The Election Commission says it will examine these cases one by one.
A final voter list is expected on November 4.
The Election Commission recorded 5,29,309 claims and objections by August 31, rising to 5,34,826 after September 1 submissions.
The filings included applications for voter inclusion, overseas registration, objections or deletions, and corrections to existing voter details.
Delhi’s draft roll excluded 47,56,722 voters whose enumeration forms could not be collected, representing 32.79% of the starting electorate.
The draft also identified discrepancies involving around 33 lakh voters whose enumeration forms were received, including mapping and family-record inconsistencies.
Claims and objections received by September 30 will be decided by October 29, with the final electoral roll scheduled for November 4.
