It was reported near Takliwadi in Maharashtra on Saturday afternoon.

Officials temporarily stopped traffic on a 24-kilometre part of the expressway.

Drivers going toward Mumbai were sent through the Dhule-Solapur highway.

Drivers going toward Nagpur used the highway in the opposite direction.

GAIL workers closed valves to slowly lower pressure in the pipeline.

Firefighting equipment was kept ready in case it was needed.

Police and district officials watched the area while they worked to restore normal traffic.
