DDA approves Master Plan Delhi 2047; affordable housing, Yamuna O-zone
The people in charge of Delhi made a new big plan for the city, called the Delhi Master Plan 2047.
This plan will guide how the city grows over the next 20 years, all the way to 2047.
The plan wants to build many homes that people can afford.
Tall apartment buildings will be allowed near metro and railway lines, so lots of new houses can be built.
In the next 10 years, about 17 lakh new homes could be built.
The plan also protects the Yamuna river's floodplain area.
No concrete buildings are allowed close to the river, but parks and other recreational spaces can be made there.
Getting permission to build will also become easier and faster, because builders won't need many extra certificates.
Old homes built by the Delhi Development Authority can now be repaired and rebuilt under new rules too.
The plan still needs final approval from the central government before it becomes official.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu approved the Delhi Master Plan 2047, replacing the MPD 2021 to align with the central government's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
The plan aims to boost affordable housing, with around 17 lakh dwelling units to be developed over 10 years under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy.
Concrete construction is banned in the core Yamuna floodplain, with only recreational activities such as parks allowed in the rest of the O-zone.
Amendments to the Unified Building Bye-Laws-2016 remove the need for no-objection certificates from DPCC, CIF, DJB and the Forest Department for building permits.
The plan will be sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval; DDA also approved a uniform redevelopment policy for old two-storey residential units.
