Uttar Pradesh Earns Three National Awards for GeM Procurement Success
Imagine a giant online shop where the government buys the things it needs, like desks, computers, and services.
That shop is called GeM.
Since 2017, a state in India called Uttar Pradesh has used this shop to buy things worth more than one lakh crore rupees, which is an enormous amount of money.
That is more than 30% of all the shopping done by every state on the platform.
Because Uttar Pradesh did so well, it won three big awards at a birthday ceremony for GeM in New Delhi.
The awards said the state was the best overall, bought the most, and did the best job teaching people about the platform.
A leader from Uttar Pradesh said this helps small businesses, women business owners, and new startups sell their products to the government more easily.
The government can also choose from many vendors, which makes buying fairer and more competitive.
This shows how a government can shop wisely and give more people a chance to take part.
Uttar Pradesh has made purchases worth more than ₹1 lakh crore through GeM, the Government e-Marketplace, since the platform launched in 2017.
The state accounts for more than 30% of the total purchases made by all states through GeM.
Uttar Pradesh received three national awards at GeM's 10th Foundation Day ceremony on August 10 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal presented the GeM Overall Excellence Award, Highest GMV Since Inception Award, and Best Outreach Initiatives for Capacity Building Award to the state.
Principal Secretary Shashi Bhushan Lal Sushil said the platform has given micro and small enterprises, women entrepreneurs, SC/ST enterprises, and startups better opportunities to participate in government procurement.
