Lucknow Encroachment Drive Turns Violent; Police, Civic Staff Attacked

Workers from the city of Lucknow in India went to a neighborhood to remove things that were not allowed, like illegal buildings and places where cattle were kept.

Police officers went with them to help keep everyone safe.

But some people in the neighborhood got angry.

They threw stones and hit the workers and police with sticks and iron rods.

They also damaged some government vehicles.

A police officer named Vinay Patel said someone grabbed him from behind and threw him on the ground.

He said a woman also hit him on the head with a heavy iron chain.

Other police officers came to help him.

People at the spot said the police had done something wrong too.

Now the police are looking into what happened and have opened a case to find out who attacked them.
