Women voters outnumber men in Meghalaya draft electoral rolls
A state in India called Meghalaya has made a new list of people who are allowed to vote.
This list is called the draft electoral roll.
More women than men are on the list this time.
There are more than 21 lakh people on the list.
That includes more than 11 lakh women and more than 10 lakh men.
The list is shorter than before because it shrank by over 1.8 lakh people.
Election workers went door to door to check who really still lived there.
Some people had passed away, some had moved away, and some were listed twice.
The new list was shared for every voting area in the state.
People can now point out mistakes in the list until September 4, 2026.
Women outnumber men in Meghalaya's draft electoral rolls with 11,16,199 female electors against 10,53,039 male electors.
The draft rolls list 21,69,243 total registered voters, including five third-gender electors.
The electorate shrank by over 1.8 lakh voters after a state-wide verification drive under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.
A total of 1,80,402 electors (7.68 per cent) were identified under the Absent, Shifted, Deceased and Duplicate (ASDD) categories, including 81,490 deceased.
Claims and objections can be filed from August 5, 2026 to September 4, 2026 across all 12 districts and 60 Assembly constituencies.
The SIR 2026 achieved 100 per cent distribution and digitisation of Enumeration Forms covering all 23,49,645 electors.
