Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry Split Leaves Departments Adjusting
The government in India has a big office called the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It takes care of buildings, cities, and city trains.
Recently, the government split this big office into two smaller offices.
Now, the people who work there are trying to figure out which office is in charge of what.
Some construction groups are in one office, but they do most of their work outside the capital city.
The metro train system is also split between the two offices.
This has made some things confusing.
The leaders are working together to make the rules clearer.
It is like dividing a big toy box into two boxes and then deciding which toys go where.
The Cabinet Secretariat issued a notification in July bifurcating the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs into two departments.
CPWD and NBCC, the ministry's two construction arms, are listed under the Department of Capital Development, though most of their projects are outside Delhi.
Urban transport is under the Department of Urban Development, while Delhi Metro and NCRTC fall under the Department of Capital Development.
DMRC works as a consultant on metro projects outside the capital, creating potential jurisdictional overlap.
Sources say efforts are underway to bring clarity on some of the issues weeks after the change.
