43 EVs Deployed for Waste Collection Across Coimbatore City
Coimbatore has started using 43 electric vehicles to collect garbage from homes.
The vehicles were provided with money donated by Leap Green Energy Private Limited.
Each vehicle can travel up to 100 kilometres after being charged.
It can carry about 500 kilograms of waste.
A vehicle can visit about 250 homes each day.
Residents will put different kinds of waste into colour-coded collection drums.
The waste will then be taken away for sorting and safe disposal.
The city also began vaccinating stray dogs against rabies, with a goal of becoming rabies-free by 2030.
Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has deployed 43 electric vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection.
Leap Green Energy Private Limited funded the project through its corporate social responsibility initiative, donating Rs 86 lakh.
Each vehicle can travel 80 to 100 km per charge, carry about 500 kg of waste and serve around 250 households daily.
The vehicles will support source-level segregation of wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste.
An anti-rabies vaccination drive for stray dogs was also launched, aiming to make Coimbatore city rabies-free by 2030.
