The government wants to build a very tall Assembly spire in Amaravati.

It approved Rs 661 crore so companies can be invited to bid for the work.

The spire is planned to be 250 metres high and become an important landmark.

Another Rs 1,548 crore was approved for roads and other infrastructure in 29 villages.

The plans include better water pipes and drainage systems.

Land was also given to a school and an office project.

Some farmers who gave up small plots of land will receive higher yearly payments.

The government says it expects to finish 80 per cent of the land pooling process by the end of October.
