Deep Depression Brings Heavy Rain and Waterlogging to Kolkata
A strong weather system called a deep depression brought very heavy rain to Kolkata.
Many roads and neighborhoods became flooded with water.
Kolkata received more than 74 millimeters of rain in 24 hours.
Jodhpur Park had the most rain, with 115 millimeters.
Other places, including Topsia and Ballygunge, also received heavy showers.
The weather office warned that rain could come in intense bursts and reduce visibility.
The system also caused rain in several other districts of West Bengal.
It is expected to weaken on Friday, so the rain may become less intense.
A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal brought heavy rain to Kolkata and nearby districts on Thursday.
Kolkata recorded more than 74 mm of rain in 24 hours by 5:30 pm.
Jodhpur Park recorded the highest rainfall at 115 mm, followed by Topsia at 105 mm.
Several Kolkata areas, including Sector V, Minto Park, Park Circus and AJC Bose Road, were waterlogged.
Rain is expected to continue on Friday, but the system should weaken and reduce in intensity.
