Yarn support to ease weavers’ woes · thehansindia.com

The Andhra Pradesh government wants to help handloom weavers spend less money before making their products.

It plans to give them yarn first as a kind of loan.

Weavers can use the yarn to make finished goods.

APCO will buy those goods later.

The cost of the yarn will then be taken from the payment.

Weavers will receive the money left over.

Minister S Savitha also asked officials to quickly check applications for a welfare scheme.

The scheme has already given Rs 25,000 to 71,536 weavers.

Another 36,632 people have applied for help in the next phase.
