Andhra Pradesh among top four in PM Surya Ghar scheme
The Indian government has a programme called PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana that helps people put solar panels on their roofs to make electricity from sunlight.
Andhra Pradesh is one of the best states in the country at running this programme.
More than four lakh rooftop solar systems have already been installed in the state.
The state has a special plan to install nearly six lakh solar systems for SC/ST communities.
So far, about 38 per cent of those systems have been built.
Many finished systems have not yet been uploaded to the government's National Portal, and officials want this fixed soon.
A senior official, K Vijayanand, held a video meeting with power company leaders on Thursday.
He told them to upload installs within 24 hours, finish pending checks within seven days, and fix portal problems within 15 days.
The state also wants to give Backward Classes a one-time subsidy of Rs 20,000 for every 2 kW solar system.
In the end, more families can get cheaper electricity from the sun.
Andhra Pradesh is among the top four states in India under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with 4,11,915 rooftop solar systems installed as of August 4.
Of these, 2,78,438 were uploaded to the MNRE National Portal, while 1,33,477 installed under the SC/ST Utility-Led Aggregation Model await portal upload.
Under the SC/ST ULA model, the state targets 5,99,105 systems with a combined capacity of 1,198.21 MW; 2,27,549 installations (38 per cent) are complete and materials have been supplied for over 3 lakh systems.
A progress review found about 2.2 lakh ULA systems complete on the ground but only around 94,000 uploaded to the National Portal, prompting directives to upload within 24 hours, clear inspections in seven days and resolve portal issues in 15 days.
The state proposes a one-time Rs 20,000 subsidy per 2 kW rooftop solar system under a Backward Classes Utility-Led Aggregation Model, with DISCOMs mobilising the balance cost and beneficiaries repaying via monthly instalments.
