APSPDCL first to grid-connect 50,000 SC/ST rooftop solar systems
Solar panels are special boards that turn sunlight into electricity.
Many families in Andhra Pradesh now have small solar panels on their roofs.
These families belong to groups called SC and ST, and they got the panels for free.
A company called APSPDCL helps connect these panels to the power grid.
The grid is the big network that brings electricity to homes and cities.
When families make more power than they need, they can send the extra power back to the grid.
APSPDCL just finished connecting 50,000 of these solar homes, which is a first for a power company in Andhra Pradesh.
The company will connect many more homes soon as part of a national program called PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
This program helps eligible families get free electricity from the sun.
The company's leader promised to finish the remaining installations by the end of the month.
APSPDCL became the first of Andhra Pradesh's three distribution companies to connect 50,000 rooftop solar services from SC and ST households to the grid.
Andhra Pradesh ranks fourth nationally in rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
APSPDCL plans to install 415 MW capacity on 2,07,000 SC and ST houses across nine districts, including Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor and Kurnool.
Official data shows 203.95 MW has already been installed on 1,01,000 households, with the remaining 1,06,000 targeted for completion by month-end.
Eligible families receive free solar systems and can supply excess power to the grid, with CMD Siva Sankar Lotheti pledging timely completion.
