IMF raises Turkey’s 2026 inflation forecast to 31.2 percent

The IMF raised its forecast for Turkey’s average inflation in 2026 to 31.2 percent, up from 28.6 percent in April.

It expects average inflation to be 26.5 percent in 2027, also higher than its earlier estimate.

These are full-year averages; the IMF’s separate forecast for inflation at the end of 2026 is 29.9 percent.

The fund cut its 2026 growth forecast to 2.7 percent, while leaving its 2027 growth estimate at 3.6 percent.

Turkey’s annual inflation eased to 29.73 percent in September, and the central bank kept its main interest rate at 37 percent as it tried to curb price increases.

Higher energy and food costs could make inflation worse, the IMF warned, because Turkey imports oil and natural gas and prolonged Middle East fighting could push prices up.

The IMF said the conflict could also weaken growth.
