Farmers clash over irrigation water in Wanaparthy district
Farmers in Chintakunta and Mahmadapur villages closed a canal shutter on Tuesday in Pangal mandal, Wanaparthy district, India.
The water comes through Package 27 of the Rajiv Bheema lift irrigation scheme, which supplies farmland through a canal.
Officials released irrigation water after a 15-day gap, but farmers from Kothapeta, Bahadur Gudem, Bandapalli, Jammapur and Busireddypalli said it was not reaching their villages first as before.
Farmers from those villages confronted the two villages’ farmers, and an argument broke out over how the water should flow.
Police and irrigation officials spoke with the farmers and took steps to send water to the villages ahead in the canal.
The dispute was brought under control, and no further action was reported.
