Court filing defects delay opposition petition against election chief
Rahul Gandhi and 10 other INDIA bloc leaders have asked India's Supreme Court to examine alleged electoral irregularities and the Election Commission's decisions.
Their petition seeks an independent, time-bound inquiry into decisions allegedly taken by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including the June 2025 decision to revise electoral rolls.
It also asks for the ongoing special intensive revision of voter rolls to be suspended while the inquiry takes place.
The leaders filed the petition after a protest march toward the court, which police stopped before it reached the building.
The court will not hear the case on Tuesday because its registry flagged 14 filing defects, including missing documents and a shortfall in court fees.
The petitioners' lawyers asked for a Wednesday listing after fixing the problems.
The petition's hearing could therefore be delayed, and the sources do not say whether the court will agree to hear it Wednesday.
