CJP leader announces protests after party leaders are detained
Ajinkya Shinde, newly named leader of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), announced a protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai for 4 pm on Sunday.
He said demonstrations had begun in other parts of the country and more cities would join.
The protests follow the preventive detention of CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke, spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convener Ashutosh Ranka.
CJP had planned a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The party alleges irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a process to revise voter lists.
Shinde said the detentions were an attack on democracy, while Delhi Police said the three would be produced before an executive magistrate.
Dipke said CJP would continue its Jantar Mantar protest until the three were released.
