Smart #2 targets 180 miles of range in a tiny two-seat electric car
Smart has unveiled the #2, a small electric two-seater and successor to the Fortwo, at the Paris Motor Show.
The earlier electric Fortwo was well suited to city driving but had limited range for longer trips.
Smart says the new car targets 180 miles of combined WLTP range from a 35.8-kilowatt-hour battery, roughly twice the outgoing model’s range.
It also claims a 10–80% charge will take 20 minutes using DC charging.
The #2 keeps a tiny footprint, rear-wheel drive and two seats, with a turning circle designed for tight spaces.
These changes could make it easier to use beyond short city journeys, while its small size preserves its urban appeal.
Smart has not stated a price, which will affect how attractive the car is to buyers.
The Smart #2 is a two-seat electric car targeting 180 miles (290 kilometers) of combined WLTP range.
Its 35.8-kilowatt-hour LFP battery is roughly twice the size of the outgoing EQ Fortwo’s 17.6-kWh battery.
Smart claims the car can charge from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes using 65-kilowatt DC charging.
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, the #2 keeps a tiny footprint and adds rear-wheel drive.
The car is 108.1 inches (2.75 meters) long and has a claimed curb-to-curb turning circle radius of 22.8 feet (6.95 meters).
