Colima Green Party leader quits over alliance with Morena

Virgilio Mendoza, a senator from Mexico’s Green Party, has resigned as the party’s leader in Colima.

He said he opposed the party’s alliance with Morena and the selection of Rosi Bayardo as the coalition’s state coordinator.

Morena, the Green Party and the Labor Party form the governing coalition known as the 4T.

Bayardo is the mayor of Manzanillo and is close to Colima Governor Indira Vizcaíno.

Around 40 local Green Party figures also left their posts to join a movement with Mendoza.

The dispute exposes tensions within the coalition as it prepares for Mexico’s 2027 governor elections.

The 17 state coordinators are expected to become the coalition’s virtual candidates within weeks.
