PT rules out immediate split with Morena but demands respect for its left-wing identity
Mexico’s Labor Party (PT) says it is not about to break its alliance with Morena, the country’s governing party.
PT coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies Reginaldo Sandoval said the alliance’s future depends on how Morena treats its partner and whether it respects the coalition’s left-wing identity.
He said the PT is concerned that the alliance is moving toward the center-right, while the PT wants a center-left course.
The parties are also preparing to choose candidates for future elections, and Sandoval said disputed selections should be settled through neutral opinion polls.
The PT has named possible candidates for those polls in Michoacán, Colima, Zacatecas and Nuevo León.
Sandoval said Morena’s decisions will determine whether the alliance continues, and argued that the PT has supported the political project for decades.
He also warned against repeating past mistakes that he said cost Morena support.

What people are saying
We feel that, as things are now, it is moving toward the center-right, and we do not want to go there. The PT wants the center-left. A real left.
Who is responsible for whether these scenarios are fulfilled? Our main ally. Morena, because we are the real Fourth Transformation.
