CPI(M) leader faces two FIRs after attack on his Kolkata home
Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and lawyer, said his home in Kolkata was attacked on Thursday.
He blamed Hindutva groups in a social media post.
Police arrested a suspect, whom Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari described as a Trinamool Congress worker; a party spokesperson said they could not recall a worker by that name.
The chief minister condemned the attack but said Bhattacharya could face legal action unless he removed the reference to Hindus.
Two police complaints against Bhattacharya have been registered as first information reports, or FIRs.
Bhattacharya said he was happy the complaints had been filed and that the law should take its course.
The suspect was taken into police custody, while Adhikari said the government would not tolerate attacks on religion or faith.
