YouTuber Dhruv Rathee released after detention in Gurugram

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained at his home in Gurugram on October 10 and released by police around 2 a.m.

Police said they had not charged him.

The detention came as police tightened security in Delhi to stop protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.

Demonstrators were demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities related to the SIR.

Police sources said more than 7,000 people were detained at several locations, including opposition leaders trying to join the protest.

Police said Rathee could be detained again or face further legal action if he goes to Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders.

A senior officer said police may file multiple cases over alleged assaults on officers during the protest.
