Mexico weighs alleged links between businessman and CJNG figure
Mexican officials are reviewing claims of links between a businessman and the CJNG, a criminal group.
The claims involve Luis Alberto Olán Aparicio and Iván Cazarín, known as “El Tanque,” a suspected senior CJNG operator.
Security chief Omar García Harfuch said a recording captures the businessman acknowledging contact with Cazarín.
Officials have not confirmed an investigation into Luis Alberto or his brother Amílcar, and the federal prosecutor’s office will decide who else may be investigated.
Amílcar Olán Aparicio became a major supplier of ballast for the Maya Train and Interoceanic Train projects and also won medicine supply contracts.
Authorities arrested Cazarín on October 6; they say he operated in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Puebla and was linked to crimes including drug and arms trafficking.
Mexico’s security chief said authorities have a recording from a news report in which businessman Luis Alberto Olán Aparicio allegedly acknowledges contact with a suspected regional leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
