US Public Fast-Charging Network Passes 80,000 Ports
The US public fast-charging network passed 80,000 ports for the first time in the third quarter of 2026.
Charging data platform Paren said the country added 4,106 ports at 664 stations from July through September.
That was 12% fewer new ports than a year earlier, as electric vehicle sales cooled after the US government rolled back policies supporting EVs.
Networks are still expanding, and 73% of the new ports could deliver at least 250 kilowatts, compared with 60% a year earlier.
New chargers are concentrated in cities and more populated areas; rural areas received just 10% of the new ports, leaving drivers there with fewer options.
More powerful chargers can help drivers get back on the road sooner, especially in EVs built to accept high charging rates.
A stronger fourth quarter is expected, though the sources do not give a specific forecast.
